Graphic Artist

A graphic artist is a person that produces different graphic products for different companies such as posters, magazines and menus. Often when a company wants an advertisement, for example a poster, the graphics design team will plan, design and create the posters for them. Graphic artists within the film industry would work closely with the production designer as they would both work on creating props for the film. Graphic designers also work on creating the opening titles to television programmes. They will often add text to recorded footage for the opening titles.

For this job you will; need an artist background, have a good attention to detail, be creative and have great calligraphy skills, be able to work alone or in a team and be very good at communicating ideas. You will also most likely need to be graduates of a graphics or art course.

Researcher

A researcher is someone who finds information about certain subject to benefit a company or themselves. He or she will take part in both primary and secondary research. From this research they will find qualitative and quantitative information. To be in this line of work you will need have a good understanding of language and have various research skills. Within the news a news reporter will often take part in some primary research to find out more information about a certain event. This research often takes place in front of cameras so that the audience can see what peoples views and opinions are.

Product researchers would look in to a certain type of product and assess what makes the product popular and successful. The researcher will try to find out; how much it cost to make the product, how much profit it earned and how it would appeal to audiences. Often researchers will take part in various enquiries that will go towards their research. He or she have many ways in which they can gain information about the public such as questionnaires, focus groups and interviews, this is called consumer research.

People who work in location reconassiance are considered researchers as they try to find information about possible filming locations. They will also make sure that property owners agree to filming on that location. He/She will also have to consider the risks that may come with he location and how to keep the film crew safe.

Director

The director is in charge of the creative aspects of a film. A director will work together with a producer to oversee the production of a film. As they have creative control over films, directors are able decide what the film looks like. All directors have certain style which is shown in all of their directed films.During pre-production the director will work with the script writers to discuss changes. After the script is finalised the director will turn the script into sequence shots. The director will also decide what type of shots and angles are used in each scene.

A film director will work with all the members of the crew; advising and making sure that filming runs fluently. He/she will often advice and talk to film crew members to make sure shots filmed are what he/she envisioned. Any director from film to television has a wide understanding of the industry they are in. They know what the public want and what makes their form of media successful. A director must also be very creative and be dedicated to their work. They also have full understanding of other areas of the production team. Before becoming a director you will have to work your way up the production team. Starting off as a runner is the easiest way to get in to the industry.

A director should have the stamina to work intensive hours and be very confident.

Animator

A animator is a person who creates images that move. There are many types of animation such as; stop motion, computer animation and traditional animation. The animator is usually found at the production and post-production stage of a animation. They also contribute toward the script writing from time to time. The animator will use key frames which are used to join the images together to make the content move within a sequence. Editors also use keyframes during editing.

To be in this line of work you will need have a good understanding of the programmes used to make an animation. An animator can be found is various forms of media from video game production to feature film production. The animators often work in groups as animation takes a lot of time. An animation director will work closely with the script writer and director to make sure everything is in order.

An animator will often use pre-shot video footage and add animation to it. This happens mostly in the opening sequence of a programme or film.  During pre-production the layout artist and the story board artist will sit down and draw each individual shot so that the animation team know what they are doing.

In a team of animator there often people with different roles. A Character animator will work on the movement and the dialogue of a character, making sure that the voice acting fits the movement of the character's mouth. A special effects animator is an animator that focuses mostly on visual effects such as the weather and lighting changes.

Assignment Brief

Financial

To get a job in finance you must have degree in buisness, economics or accounting. Finacial Accountants are responisible for making sure that during film production they do no go over budget. They work with producers to make sure that the money is well managed. Accountants will often work in a office help clients through phone calls, emails and meetings, but sometimes they will work on location so they can advise from a different perspective. Accountant executives will organise jobs for the accoutants where ever they are needed.
Accountants will also work with marketing and publishing so that they keep to their budget.

A Auditor will check the finances for companies and if they find any problems the will try and resolve it. An auditor can either be freelance or be intrernal.

A Finance adviser will work with an organisation to advice them money wise. They will think of the clients best interests by doing the maths for them and telling them how to manage te money.

Legal

Within the film industry members of the production team will often need lawyers. Sometimes an employee may be hurt on set which means they may need a lawyer to support them if they want to take action. When a media company creates a television programme they will make sure that there is no copyright infringement on there part and they dont infringe on any other company. Lawyers would also make sure that the company is paying the right taxes.

Intellectual Property Lawyers are lawyers which deal with brands and logos which could possibly be exploited by other companies.
